Garden: Thoughts and a Slideshow

Every day when I get home from work I get away from the WWW on my computer and get busy with the more-preferred WWW outside – watering, wine-sipping, and weeding. I can spend hours out there, and why not when I have mastered the art of balancing my watering hose in one hand and my wine glass in the other, all while giving the stink-eye to rabbits and chipmunks who plot to steal my peppers?

Overall I enjoy watching things grow out there. It’s still very cool to me to be able to walk out my back door and grab fresh oregano, basil, sage or mint for a recipe. Still love picking fresh tomatoes and zucchinis and slicing them up for a quick pasta. As a matter of fact, I’m not sure that will ever get old.

One of my favorite things about gardening is that there is always so much to learn, and you can really take it at your own speed. You can become crazy meticulous about soil quality, spacing of plants, and watering patterns…or you could simply throw some seeds in the ground and see what kind of mood Mother Nature is in. I fall somewhere in between. Following are some pics of the garden so far this year. Excuse the insane amount of peppers – I believe I had a momentary lapse in judgment and briefly imagined I was running a mariachi band training camp for the summer. Hot banana peppers, anyone?

Remember that butter crunch lettuce I planted a while back, when I asked for your help? Apparently, it worked 🙂

I just had to re-plant some zucchini, since some of mine were already ambushed by the vine borers. I did get a few zucchini from it before the attack, so at least there’s that. And even though it will probably happen again, I can’t help myself from trying once more. I guess that’s what it’s all about, no?
