Five Inexpensive Halloween Decor Ideas

Want to decorate your foyer for the Fall season, and for Halloween? Great! Are you broke? Even better. Here are my five favorite, most inexpensive Halloween decor ideas perfect for any home.

1. Two words: Spanish moss. You can get this stuff by the bag at any craft store. It’s my favorite and most inexpensive way to spook up any area of your home – especially the foyer for Halloween. The beauty of it is that, while it may be a bit messy, it’s super easy to decorate with and you can tuck it in anywhere. Here you see how I tucked it into these floral sconces, along with a sprig of fall leaves purchased at a local craft store. So really I’m not overhauling anything here – just adding a Fall layer to what I already have.

2. A spooky pumpkin. You know you have one. Just plug one of these guys in and you have instant Halloween in your entryway. My guy sits at the bottom of a console table to greet everyone that comes in the door.

3. A fall scent. In this case I’m not only trying to create a Halloween foyer visually, but I’m also focusing on the scent. These scented candles, purchased from Home Goods, instantly let guests know right when they walk in the door that fall has arrived. Place them in a tray and surround them with a fall-scented potpourri. (PS – I got the leaf tray for .78 cents on clearance at TJ Maxx a few years ago!)

4. Add a giant, creepy, fuzzy, gross looking spider. I got this thing for $7 from Oriental Trading 3 years ago. I. Love. It. Open it up and hook it onto anything – the couch, a table, the stairwell, hanging from the drapes – whatever. It’s lightweight, and you can fold it back up to be impressively small for simple storage. The red light up eyes blink for an extra nasty effect. If you want to creep people out for a Halloween party, or gross out some trick-or-treaters, place one of these in your foyer and watch people freak!

5. Spider webs. Now that you have a gargantuan, hairy spider, don’t you think he needs a web? Fake spider webs for Halloween are right up there in my book with the Spanish moss – it’s cheap, easy to work with, and a little bit goes a loooooong way. Just pull it apart as much as you can and wrap everything in your foyer with it. You can also purchase a string of cheap orange lights to go under the webs for an extra spooky effect.

Remember when decorating your foyer for Halloween, don’t hold back! It’s one of the few times a year where you can really let loose and go overboard without anything feeling overdone or tacky. The more, the better! And here’s a tip on scoring deals: you don’t have to wait until the season is over for great Halloween decor. Many stores will start slashing prices one, sometimes two weeks before Halloween, so keep looking! My favorite spots are: Home Goods, Garden Ridge, and TJ’s of course.
