5-Step DIY for Bridal Shower or Baby Shower Favors – Potted Succulents

These cute and low maintenance party favors acts as table decor for you next party.  No fancy tools or gardening skills needed, either. They are simple to assemble, and the craft store chalk board picks are an adorable way to personalize. Read on for the easy breezy DIY instructions below.

Materials: (*for quantities on succulents and pots, purchase one for each place setting*)

succulents (mine were purchased from the Walmart garden section)
terra cotta pots (also a Walmart find)
roll of glittered tape (Michael’s)
chalkboard picks (Michael’s)
white spray paint (Michael’s)

Directions:

Step 1: Spray your pots. Tape some newspaper down in an area that is well-ventilated, and spray those suckers white. I sprayed them in my garage:

Step 2: Get your glitter tape ready. While your pots are drying, measure out a piece of glitter tape going all the way around the rim of the pot. Use this piece as a template to cut as many more you will need. Once you have them cut and your pots are dry, begin sticking them around the rim. (*Note: The tape has a backing that you peel off before sticking it – don’t peel the back of the tape all of at once. Instead, expose only a piece of it and place it correctly, then peel it back little by little as you fit it around the rim.)

For another cool use for this glitter tape and another great DIY idea, consider making the bride a personalized wedding card box – she can use it for both the shower and the wedding.

Step 3: Pot the plants. No fancy potting tools or mess here. Simply turn the succulent on its side, and wiggle it out of it’s plastic container home. Just a few shakes should allow you to pull it out all in one piece. Drop them into your pots and voila! A perfect fit.

*Just as a side note: the names of these succulents are actually called “Hens and Chicks”, since they have one or two main flowers and little baby ones off of them – very fitting idea for a bridal shower ;)*

Step 4: Personalize with chalkboard picks. Now you are ready to personalize! Simply write a cute message onto each chalkboard pick and insert one into each pot. Suggested things to write: wedding date, name of couple, or simply a drawing of a heart.

Step 5: Set the table. Put one at each place setting so each guest gets one to take home. Simple! And of course, CONGRATS Judith and Adam!!
